This may be a delayed post, but trust me, it’s an important one. When Tyler and I first got engaged, we pondered on what would be the best way to celebrate the big news with our family and friends. At first thought, we figured an engagement party would be appropriate as it is almost tradition… At second thought we decided, why spend all this money on an engagement party when we could save the money and put it towards our wedding. That’s when we came up with the idea of “the merger”. Well, we didn’t fully come up with it on our own, but with help of the family we decided this would be a perfect way to celebrate.

After being in a relationship for four years, Tyler and I’s families had still never had any traditional dinners nor had all the members of our families fully met yet! Seeing as when I said “yes” I was not only making a lifetime commitment with Tyler but we were promising that our families would now be one and our holidays will be shared or combined and that not only would we become children of second parents but that we would now have more brothers and sisters as well. It was only right to begin this life long journey with not only a celebration of engagement but a celebration of two families becoming one.

If you decide to have an engagement party, it will be wonderful. Nothing is better than being surrounded with family and friends during such a huge change in your life, BUT… remember that there will be plenty of time to celebrate with friends and throwing a small “merger” dinner will be all that you could wish for.

2016: A Full Year Of Engagement

A new year always brings new excitement and new adventures but this year in particularly will be one for the books. 2016 will be a year full of engagement for Tyler and I and there is much to do. We have set a small timeline for our wedding planning to keep us on track and from the beginning of the new year to our one year left mark in September we have a handful of tasks to complete.

  3. Set up a budget
  4. Create a guest list
  5. Create a webpage
  6. Pick our wedding party
  7. Engagement party
  8. Book our location
  9. Book our officiant

Our wedding date, if you have not already heard, is September 16th, 2017. If you want your special day to be exactly as you plan, it’s important to give yourself enough time to plan. Our style that we have picked has a country/rustic feel (hopefully in the mountains of Vermont). We have chosen our wedding party yet we have not made any announcements… plans are in the making and secrets provide the best surprises!

#whatsmyhashtag?

The Basics

Let me start off by explaining what a hashtag is to those of you who may not know. The symbol which used to be more popularly known as the number or pound sign (#) has formulated into a networking tool that allows people to connect with topics or short phrases. Still confused…? Go ahead and type in #Wedding into your search bar on Instagram, Twitter or Facebook… you’ll get the point. So why have we so widely begun to brand our weddings these days with such a thing?

To start off, a hashtag gives a good common ground for your guests to share excitement, plans and photos. The earlier you come up with a hashtag for your wedding, the more it will spread and the more action it will get. It can also be very beneficial when it comes to gathering all your wedding photos when the wedding is over. No need to go crazy contacting all your guests for their photos, just click on the hashtag and they are already there.

Now, the fun part… creating your hashtag. Brain fart? Not a problem, I’ve done the research for you. You can use an online generator but chances are you wont find something that isn’t beyond corny or tacky. This is your first chance to get creative. A few tips to remember when making your tag is avoid spelling errors, capitalize the beginning of each word and CHECK IT BEFORE YOU USE IT! Common hashtags are made from combining the names of the bride and groom, incorporating your wedding theme (if any) or by using alliterations, rhymes or puns to form a clever and unique tag.

What’s my hashtag?

Using some of the tips given above, we have come up with a hashtag for our wedding. Although it is so far in advanced, we hope that announcing it now will just give our guests more time to get excited with us. We began by combining our names to come up with something catchy and clever. Unfortunately, our outcome was “testee”… not very romantic. We decided to go for simple… Something that is unique to us and easy to remember. #HappilyEverLimoges

It’s okay to get a little corky!

I’ve been to weddings and I know that a lot of times when I get to the wedding reception, I spend the first 10 minutes trying to find my seat by circling every table looking at the guest card. If you are looking for a rustic, vintage, classic or California style wedding this is perfect for you and your guests! Put this at the entrance of your reception and make sure to have clear number signs on your tables. The hardest part about making this project happen is finding someone to drink all that wine! No need to panic, stores such as Target, Amazon or even A.C. Moore usually have corks that you can buy in bulk for pretty cheap. Hot glue them all together, frame it and you have yourself a cork board. For some extra support, it helps to glue the corks in twos and stick sewing pins horizontally through them. Then glue them all to a surface.

If you fall a table short and still want the clever number sign incorporated in your project, a nice touch would be to add a bride and groom photo to the board. After all, that is the center of the occasion, right?

The engagement…

As a first post, I feel it would be fitting to start at the very beginning. Getting married is a journey after all, some longer than others, but anyone could tell you that it requires a lot of planning, a lot of to-dos and a lot of fun. Now I am no expert. Let’s be real. I got engaged October 5th, 2015 and I am only a few months in but the base of this blog is not to preach what to do when getting married but to one, blog my journey so I can remember it through all the stress of planning and to not let it blur my memories and two, to share my mistakes, my success and my ideas to all brides like me.

I am quite a young bride one could say. I am 21 years young and I am finishing off my college degree. If you know anything about me or my relationship though it would make complete sense that I am where I am today. I have been dating my fiance since I was sixteen years old and have had nothing but wonderful memories with this man of mine. We are two independent adults who want success, love and adventure. We travel and explore, we take risks when we’re doubted and we’re one hell of a good time. Since I was 19, we have “lived small” in a 350 square-foot house with a 65 pound, blind coonhound. We both work extremely hard but money has never seemed to stick around long. Just like everyone else, we have built big dreams on a little foundation.

In the two years of our engagement I will be graduating college, starting a career, traveling and planning a wedding. With a busy chapter ahead, I want to make sure that I can still be human and plan a wonderful day to solidify our relationship. With this all being said, I need to be ready to get thrifty, creative and motivated in order to have a successful outcome. Stay tuned for the journey of a lifetime…
